The American Jewish community is a large and diverse component of our national society. Recent studies by the Pew Trusts have shown the high propensity of Jews to be very engaged in philanthropy. This presentation will explore the broad variety of Jewish institutions that individuals support and the Jewish teachings and values that encourage them to do so.

David S. Rosen has been with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago for over thirty-two years. He is currently Senior Vice President, Endowments, where he leads a staff of twenty-two, working in a variety of areas which include planned giving, donor advised giving, major gifts and special funds initiative. In addition to fundraising, Mr. Rosen oversees grant making from various foundations and funds that allocated over $90,000,000 in 2013. David came to the Federation from the Attorney General’s Charitable Trusts and Solicitations Division where he served as Assistant Attorney General. He currently serves as Co-Chairman of the Illinois Attorney General’s Charitable Advisory Committee. He was trained as a tax lawyer, earning both a J.D. and LL.M., and has been a frequent speaker before various lay and professional groups. He has also served as the Chairman of the Chicago Bar Association Trust Law Committee, and the Annual ITT Chicago-Kent College of Law, Not-For-Profit Law Conference. His expertise has put him in a consulting role at various Jewish Federations and other not-for-profit groups around the country.
