The Christian Philanthropist:
Their Hopes, Needs, and Fears

Steve Perry, Sacred Harvest Foundation

Fifty percent of all high net worth people are religious according to a University of Indiana Study. The same study reveals that the religious sector receives the largest portion of donated dollars in the US. More than likely, as advisors, you may have Christians of high net worth or Christians of capacity as clients.

Their needs, hopes and fears are not unlike those of a non-religious person and these are some of their questions:

·        How can I steward my estate well?

·        How can I responsibly participate in the transfer of that wealth?

·        How will I oversee the giving of assets and encourage the involvement of my family?

For the Christian Philanthropist there is one point of concern that is uniquely different – How do I steward my wealth in a way that pleases and honors God? Though these unique challenges present great opportunities for both mutual good and personal growth, they are also a source of great concern.

Through the Q&A process and sharing insights from Steve Perry’s journey, we will discuss how we can help the Christian philanthropist achieve their hopes, minimize their fears and find grace and peace in the process.

Steve Perry married the love of his life, Susie, in 1975 after graduating from Azusa Pacific University. After his ordination in the Lutheran Church, he served local congregations for 17 years in Orange County, CA.  In 1996, as he and Susie considered the tremendous responsibility of living with wealth, they helped launched the National Christian Foundation office in California, with the objective of establishing a safe environment where the Christian of capacity could grow and learn how to exercise responsible generosity. As a next step in their family's spiritual quest, they established the Sacred Harvest Foundation in 2003 as a philanthropic headwater for Orange County, CA., Maui, and Mindanao, Philippines where they have worked with local NGO’s and churches since 2005. Steve is the author of the book, “Living With Wealth Without Losing Your Soul: A Pastor’s Journey from Guilt to Grace” which explains the unique needs, fears and concerns of the Christian philanthropist.
