Mr. Douglas K. Freeman, J.D., LLM serves as the Chairman and National Managing Partner at Institute for Family Foundations LLC. Mr. Freeman has experience as a consultant to nearly 300 family foundations, support organizations and public charities throughout the United States. He served as Senior Managing Director of First Foundation Advisors. Mr. Freeman provided strategic planning and organizational management advice for business, nonprofit, foundation, and family clients. He was the Founder and Partner of Freeman, Freeman & Smiley, LLP. Mr. Freeman's primary focuses on the strategic planning of family wealth and the role of philanthropy. Mr. Freeman has been a consultant to nearly 200 family foundations, support organizations and public charities throughout the United States. He founded American Institute for Philanthropy National Philanthropy Day and the National Committee on Planned Giving. He is the Founder and Chairman of the IFF Foundation for Philanthropy. Mr. Freeman served as Chairman of Pacific Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Freeman serves as Vice Chairman of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, California’s third largest symphony. Mr. Freeman serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UCI Foundation of the University of California, Irvine. He serves as a Director of Bentley Forbes Group LLC. He serves as a Director of First Foundation Bank. He serves as Director of The Kavli Foundation. Mr. Freeman serves as a Trustee Emeritus of the California Institute of the Arts; Member of the Board of Advisors of the University of Southern California Center on Public Policy and Philanthropy and the Board of Counselors, at the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education. He served as Director of First Foundation Inc. from 2007 to March 25, 2014. Mr. Freeman is the co-author of a leading treatise for family foundations, entitled “A Founder's Guide to the Family Foundation“, published by the Council on Foundations. He has written three books, including “Estate Tax Freeze: Tools and Techniques“, originally published by Matthew Bender (1984). He was a Contributing Editor to the Journal of Financial Service Professionals, and has written dozens of professional articles published in a variety of journals. He speaks throughout the country on behalf of professional associations, such as the Council on Foundations, the Association of Small Foundations, and the American Bar Association. He is a Certified Specialist in Taxation, under the State Bar of California. Mr. Freeman is a graduate of Stanford University (A.B. with Distinction) in 1967; J.D. from University of California at Los Angeles in 1970 and LL.M. in Taxation from the University of San Diego in 1984.

   

Dr. Lee Hausner is an internationally recognized clinical psychologist, business consultant and family wealth advisor. She served as the senior psychologist for the Beverly Hills Unified School District for 19 years. She is currently the Senior Managing Director for First Foundation Advisors. An acknowledged expert on psychological issues involving wealth and wealth transfer, she was a presenter at the World Economic Forum in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, and is a frequent participant at the high wealth/private client conferences for major financial institutions. She is a frequent guest on national radio and television and a quoted expert in national publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Times, Forbes, Fortune, Privilege, Town and Country and Worth Magazine.

Dr. Hausner is the co-author with Doug Freeman of A Founder's Guide to the Family Foundation, published by the Council on Foundations and is the author of the seminal work regarding wealth and the family; Children of Paradise: Successful Parenting for Prosperous Families. In addition, Dr. Hausner incorporated her unique six-step transition model for succession in family business in the critically acclaimed family business resource book Hats Off to You 2: Balancing Roles and Creating Success in Family Business, of which she was a co-author.

Dr. Hausner is a graduate of Northwestern University (BA, Psychology), San Francisco State University (MA, Psychology), and Kensington University (PhD, Psychology).
